Pictures Galore

Update from Turkey...
Chuck didn't make it on the plane due to some paperwork issues, but we believe it was God's will. It gives Chuck some stress-free time with his family & friends and Heather's week was a bit busy at work. Chuck's flight now comes in the beginning of this next week.
Pictures are always fun to see and thus we're going to make this a picture post...

One of my favorite things about Turkey - the tea or chai as they call it. Delicious!! And so cute in the cups they serve it in...

A whole store section filled with all different types of spices. Can't wait to get containers so that it's worth buying some

A huge bag of henna... think about all the wonderful things I can dye onto my skin :)

Goat cheese - the container it's in is the goat skin... how fascinating :)

The fish market in Adana

The meat market in Adana

Some of the BEAUTIFUL lamps they make!

Rugs! But not the usual ones Turkey is known for. These are a little fancier & thinner

Dinner out with friends

A fun evening out

Another friend I've made and went out to eat with :)

Another newbie to Turkey. We enjoyed walking around Adana. The Turkish people seem to love looking at black people - they kept saying she looked like chocolate.

The snake I saw outside my house window. He better NEVER come in the house. Still need to figure out if he's poisonous or not...

A couple of cute kids playing

The farewell dinner for Tyrrel. We're going to miss you! I love this picture of him stealing cookies

Sunday time together just hanging out

Fun times!

3 days & counting...

... til Chuck arrives in Turkey. We can't wait to be together again!!! It's going to be so great!!
Until the cord to download more pictures is found, these are what you get. These are pictures of the house we are living in...
It's a 2 bedroom one-level house with 1 bathroom, laundry room, living room, kitchen & dining room. The floors are tile, which is nice in the heat & we do have AC, thank the Lord!! Once the heat calms done, we hope to be able to use fans more than AC, but it's such a blessing when its hot outside! You'll see a couple of pictures of the house while empty below. Hopefully we can attach some pictures of the house with the loaned furniture in it soon. Maybe with pictures of us both in it :)

God bless!
Love us

Address for the Kershner's in Turkey

Hi to all,
Hope you are doing well and looking forward to your weekend up ahead!! We sure are. Chuck's enjoying time with his family & our great friends, Chris & Kim. Chuck is able to go to their son Levi's birthday party and Heather is sad she's going to miss it, so a big shout out to Levi!! Heather is going to learn how to get around in the little buses that go around the city of Adana. She can't wait since it will be her main means of transportation off base since the car won't get to Turkey for a long time. Hopefully God will provide clouds & some fun experiences.

We also realized that we had not posted out new address in Turkey yet, so wanted to get that out to friends and family, in case you were thinking about sending something ; ) What is nice is that it will be the same postage as if you were sending something across the states. The address is Kershner
PSC 94 Box 2546
APO, AE 09824

Mucho love & many blessings.

Thank you Lord for your blessings

The Lord tells us to praise Him. He has blessed Chuck & I in so many different ways and we want to thank Him for all of His blessings.

On Chuck's side of things, we're very grateful for him being able to get a new drivers license & military ID easily. We're grateful that Chuck gets to spend more time with his family & his mentor Chris. God has been good in orchestrating everything & everything has worked out in the long run.

On Heather's side, she's got quite a few things to thank God for. Internet at the house is one of the biggest blessings!! It means so much to be able to stay in contact with people and be able to hear how friends & family are doing!! The other thing that is amazing to have is a shower curtain!! It's so nice not to have to sit in the tub to get clean :) A few other blessings that the Lord has provided are friends to be able to explore Turkey with, a bike to get around with, a church to be able to go to, friendly people to lend supplies/take you to town/give advice and phone calls to loved one which totally make the day brighter.

Not sure if any of you are curious or not, but the house we got is a generic military house... white walls, generic tiles for the floor, etc. We have 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom with a tub/shower, 1 laundry room, 1 big living room, a kitchen & a dining room. I'll try to take a few pictures of the house with the loaned furniture in it so you can get an idea of what the house is like. I have some pictures of it empty, but it's hard to identify the different areas without some furniture.

Thank you all for your interest in our blog. Much love.
God bless

Another week gone by...

Hello again folks,

Heather has now been in Turkey for over a week and Chuck has been in the states trying to take advantage of the little time he has left. Both of us are counting down the days until Chuck gets to come to Turkey and we can be together again. God has been teaching us to trust Him even more through the stress & frustrations of moving and trying to get things done.

Chuck has been trying to spend as much time as he can with friends & family, as well as getting last minute things packed up or bought. He's been able to spend time with Hannah and with our good friend & Chuck's mentor Chris. Please pray for Chuck as he's getting things worked out in the States & especially on the 18th, 19th & 20th as they will be moving our belongings.

Heather has been doing well and trying to keep herself busy so she doesn't miss everyone from home. The Turkish culture has been wonderful! The people are so friendly and the food is the bestest!! There's fresh fruit & vegetables everywhere & they taste wonderful! The Farmer's market is a delight to visit & the many different restaurants & yummy food is fabulous. Thankfully there are some friendly people that have been willing to share their love of Turkey and have taken Heather & others around to see parts of the land. Since Heather has the camera, a couple of pictures are included...

This is a house in Turkey. Heather was told that a lot of Turkish people don't completely finish their houses, since then they don't have to pay taxes. You can see in this picture that the Turkish people will also grow grape vines from the ground to the top of their house and have it grow over an arbor to create shade & have their grapes readily available.

Heather & a couple of other friends at a restaurant called 'Prestij' on the outskirts of Adana.
Isn't it beautiful?

A sample of the food that was served & enjoyed by all.

A picture of the empty house that will eventually become the Kershner's Home Sweet Home in Turkey. It's pretty nice and just needs a lot of love to become a home.

Please be praying for Chuck & Heather to stay sane & to continue trusting in God. Thus far both are feeling stressed & are easily frustrated, but God is providing as He always does.

Go with God!

Heather made it to Turkey

Hello to everyone...
The newest update since the last post was that the paperwork was recieved on the 22nd of June and Heather was to leave to Turkey on the 29th of June. The moving people were scheduled and Chuck will follow Heather to Turkey around the 25th of July. God provided just as we knew He would, although the planning was never without its stress. Please continue to be praying for everything to go well with the moving of our belongings and for the transitions going on for Heather & Chuck

An update from Heather:
The trip to Turkey went quite well and without any real issues. Being able to see family & friends before leaving was wonderful but saying the goodbyes to everyone was truly difficult!! I know its not forever, but it doesn't make it any easier.

The flights went welll. Got to see the movie Rango (It's a cute movie). I slept during the long trip to Germany and then did my best to stay up for the rest of the time so that I would sleep when I arrived in Turkey. The transition from one airline to another in Istanbul was chaotic - truly crazy! I somehow managed to get upgraded to first class (I didn't understand most of what the check-in attendants were saying, and only cared about getting on the flight itself), which was a nice blessing. I'll post a picture of the food I got later, but it was delicious and a great meal. It was quite impressive for airplane food. I arrived arond 1030pm and finally got to my room on base around midnight. I slept good for sure!!

Since then, I've seen the clinic where I'll be working and started getting things sorted out. I got to spend some time with someone who came from Andrews (where I used to work) and had gotten here a week before me. We're trying to learn & share information back & forth; it's WONDERFUL to have someone else around that understands and to do things with.

I've already visited the Library - and it's a good one!!! Magazines, movies, cd's, lots of books and more. I've also found that there's an arts & crafts building where you can do clay, painting, woodworking, etc. They have classes each month and I'm hoping to take advantage of these. What's interesting is that they have almost all of the supplies to do stained glass and no teacher, since she moved somewhere else. I may let myself get roped into doing a class - but not sure yet. It takes time to learn & I have no idea how I would teach it to someone else... hmm.

Tonight, they are going to be doing fireworks for the 4th of July (just 2 days early) and have some activities. Tomorrow I'm planning on going to a farmer's market & going to church.

Turkey has been awesome thus far and I can't wait for Chuck to join me! I miss my husband!! :)

That's all for now folks! Have a fabulous 4th of July!!
